THE FRIGHT GALLERY 2001

Talk about going behind the scenes! Our pumpkin has been painted, and its bare backside exposed for all to gawk at. A fabric scrim was stapled into place to provide an even background for the interior lights -- otherwise the inside of the pumpkin would look like an unfinished addition to someone's house when lit each night.

This same backstage view was obscured from audience view by vine-covered fences, pumpkins and foliage for opening night. Here the pumpkin lighting 'system' is in operation... didn't it look much better from the front side? |

A close-up of our intricate lighting plan at work. Not only was our giant pumpkin expertly illuminated, it was well insulated and energy efficient! |

Since our pumpkins would be donated by our fans, these groovy gourds needed display stands so they wouldn't roll down the hill and bowl over our audience! Thus began the tedious task of assembling and painting 175 small platforms which would be staked into the lawn. From Keith's expression, it appears the crew was much closer to completing platform #1 than #175 at this point! Pictured (left to right): Lisa, Rich, Keith, Jeff, Russell and Rick. |

Keith painted the pumpkin patch sign for Pappy, since Pappy's hands are a bit shaky after countless Halloweens. |

Our patriotic pumpkin sits proudly in Pappy's patch, signage in place and a scarecrow sentry keeping an eye on the first few jack o' lanterns to appear. Everything's ready for opening night of the pumpkin donation drive. True to the Fright Gallery's spirit of community service and recylcing, at the end of this year's presentation, we donated our patriotic pumpkin to the City of Burbank Parks and Recreation Department for their Halloween festivities next year! Again, our thanks to all the fans and visitors who contributed their carved pumpkins and participated this year! We enjoyed seeing everyone again, and we appreciate you joining in this fun, interactive, change-of-pace community event. This was an appropriate time to step down off our stage and meet our neighbors face-to-face. Thanks for coming out to support us, and donating 160 pumpkins, for which the Fright Gallery has contributed $80 to the Red Cross to help others! See you all in October -- stay tuned to TheFrightGallery.com to see what's in store in 2002! |
